Social Media Swag

Updated: Apr 13, 2021

Hi everyone! This week I'm blogging from somewhere in Europe! I'll tell you more about that next week. Can you guess where I am?

For now, I'm here to talk about my job as intern for the Southern Institute of Faux Finishing! Specifically, I want to give you the inside scoop on how I create those oh-so-satisfying posts that you see on our Instagram every #ColorMixingMonday!

Step 1: Choose the main color.

I don't spend particularly long on the first step. I usually just walk into our beautiful storefront and am instantly inspired! Jolie Paints are so beautiful, I find new inspiration in them every day.

Step 2: Choose a color scheme!

We love Pinterest. There's so much to gather ideas from, especially when it comes to interior design and DIY projects. For Step 2, I simply search for photos that include my chosen main color. For example, if I had chosen Marigold, I would search "jolie paints + marigold + interior design." After finding this initial image, I screengrab a few more images that I think represent the color scheme well. I like to have at least one natural element in every moodboard.

Step 3: Get mixing!

This is my favorite part! It's so relaxing! After I've chosen what we like to call an "inspiration interior image," I set to work mixing both the main color and my other chosen Jolie Paints hues to create the exact colors I need to make the color scheme I need. I use this great table arm, which clamps onto the table and holds my iPhone in place. It makes getting videos of each mix a breeze.

Step 4: Make the color card.

For this, I just take a small paint brush and brush my chosen mixes onto the Jolie color card in an order that I think is attractive. Then, I snap a pic with my iPhone!

Step 5: Layout!

For this last step I make sure to crop my images to only include what I need. Then, I use the Canva app to organize these images, including the mixing video, into an attractive format that I think represents both Jolie Paints and the color scheme well. After that, all I have to do is craft a caption and click 'post' on Instagram and Facebook!

Before I went on vacation, I made sure to put together enough #ColorMixingMonday layouts to last us until I return. Our marketing intern, Joyce, is hard at work managing our social media in my place, and she is doing a fabulous job!!

Thanks for reading, and I hope this post has made you feel even more welcome to interact and share YOUR ideas and inspirations with us! Connect with us on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and Pinterest for more inspo every day. And remember: #ifitdoesntsparkjoypaintit!
